Fox Point, in Providence, Rhode Island, aims to merge urban living with ecological sustainability by focusing on the revitalization of riverbank ecosystems while incorporating a ferry embarkation point. Situated in the Narragansett Bay area, this park serves as a transition zone from urban infrastructure to natural habitat.
We prioritize creating habitats for target species such as great egret, oysters and fostering biodiversity within an urban setting. By designing spaces that support local flora and fauna, we aim to provide a sanctuary for wildlife amidst the urban landscape.
Central to the project is the exploration of balance between human activity and nature. Through interpretive elements and community engagement, we encourage reflection on our relationship with the environment. Plazas, open lawns, tree groves, tidal playground, stepped seating are provided for human beings while salt marshland, high marsh, tidal water beach and wetlands are for various species. Transition from hard edge to soft edge, the waterfront is designed to accommodate nature forces and human interfere.
A ferry embarkation is integrated on the hard edge while on the soft edge, gravel beaches for tidal waters and all species. As a joint of the city and the larger Narragansett Bay area, the project embraces both nature and culture.
Ultimately, this project seeks to demonstrate the possibility of harmonizing urban development with ecological preservation, promoting coexistence and stewardship of our planet.
