The Jiangnan garden is an exemplary model of Eastern living environments, where specific buildings for daily life, work, study, and entertaining guests are scattered throughout the garden. These buildings are connected by corridors and garden paths, allowing for daily activities to flow between the various buildings, immersing oneself in nature. This experience engages all the senses—sight, sound, smell, taste, touch, and mind—resulting in the “Six Pleasures.” In modern villas, these functional buildings from Jiangnan gardens are often integrated into a single structure, improving efficiency but reducing opportunities for connection with nature. With this in mind, the garden design in this project considers the integration of the building’s internal functions with the garden, extending indoor activities outward, expanding living space, and recreating the “Six Pleasures” of a life immersed in nature.

The villa garden serves as an outdoor extension of the homeowner’s living space and personal interests. This design seeks to reflect the homeowner’s lifestyle, aesthetic taste, and spiritual depth. Based on the site’s microclimate, vegetation, spatial form, and sightlines, we aim to develop a contemporary garden concept tailored specifically to this villa.

Small-Scale Grandeur,Spiritual Enrichment,Elegant Simplicity,Adaptation to the Site.

The concept of the “Six Pleasures” ultimately achieves a perfect integration of indoor and outdoor spaces, creating a villa and garden that are both places for leisure and living:

Leisure—“Enjoying the mountains and waters, resting by the music of forests and springs”;

Living—“Reading, practicing arts, engaging in leisurely conversation, and dining amidst the scenery.”

This design extends the indoor lifestyle into the outdoor space, filling the home with a sense of spiritual richness that cannot be fully achieved within the confines of the indoor environment.
