Fan-shaped Salt Field Tree of Life

Located in the salt zone of Jiangjun district, the distinctive landscape of the barrier island, which faces the ocean and radiates outward, creates a beautiful fan-shaped salt field. To express the beauty and cultural characteristics, the design team took the fan-shaped outline of the salt field as the basis for the sharp lines to symbolize the beams and the sunshine that is essential to the salt field. The work’s paper-cut sculpture shapes the changes in light and shadow, thus emphasizing the meaning of sunlight following the track of time. The four-petaled mangrove symbolizes that in the hard-to-survive salt land, salt workers and people in the salt belt have transformed all their difficulties into a spirit of perseverance.

The work is located in the central axis of the salt field, guiding people to walk into the salt field to experience the sunshine surrounding them, recall the hard work of the salt workers, and precipitate their souls. The installation aims to present the characteristics of the salt industry and marine culture, attracting tourists to get close to the sea and respect the sea, and awakening the connection between people and salt production as well as between people and the sea. The theme of the installation is the beauty of the landscape of the fan-shaped salt field, the spirit of life in the salt zone, and the resources and challenges of the ocean, which demonstrates the history of the salt industry and looks forward to the future of the ecology.
