The concert “Lonely Planet 2.0” uses short animation films to connect the entire performance concept with a story. A story about a lonely scientist who creates a robot. After the scientist leaves, the robot lives alone until it meets another small robot. The story symbolizes the ups and downs in our lives—from loneliness to companionship, back to loneliness, and finally finding strength within ourselves. The singer Michael Wong uses his warm and delicate voice, along with his musical compositions, to extend the exploration of the multiple facets of loneliness from the animations. Through the performance, we realize that loneliness is not just an emotion, but also a reflection of life, containing profound thoughts on life and love.
This is not just a concert, but also a dialogue of the soul. When Michael Wong sings "Opposite Direction" he turns his back to the audience, making the stage a space for self-dialogue. Instead of embracing the audience, he faces away, communicating with himself through the camera in front of him. This camera is just like another self, representing different aspects of a person in various relationships from different angles, as if questioning each self.
The music guides the direction of the performer, with real-time photography combined with pre-recorded visual effects, creating direct communication and interaction with the audience. The design of the lighting and laser no longer considers just the audience's perspective but reflects different stage effects in the various spatial aspects of the performer. Through the artistic conception of the songs, the changes in the performer's direction represent different aspects of a person, conveying emotions and facilitating deep communication and interaction with the audience.
