What can a 4,269㎡ plot of farmland produce? Annually, it might only feed 11 people or generate 5,078 Chinese yuan from ethanol production. Yet, this land holds generations of memories and cultural significance. The challenge is not just to preserve its identity but to enhance its value—both culturally and economically—while ensuring that the profits benefit the local community.

In the post-COVID economy, the rise of self-media and individual entrepreneurs demands a new approach. How can we reimagine this land to honor its heritage, generate greater profits, and most importantly, return those profits to the people who call this land home? By creating a business environment tailored to these modern entrepreneurs, we can blend tradition with innovation, fostering a thriving community that respects its past while embracing the future.

In this case, a 4,269㎡ plot of farmland was slated to become an office building. By incorporating vertical farming technology, this decision can be reimagined to benefit both agriculture and urban growth. Vertical farming boosts crop production within a smaller footprint, allowing the land to retain its agricultural use while accommodating urban needs. The design includes stormwater recycling systems and solar energy, reducing energy costs, with crop placement optimized for lighting and orientation.

The complex targets student entrepreneurs by combining vertical farming with spaces for human activity. On-site crop production and paid fieldwork help reduce overhead costs, such as rent, and foster collaboration within a green, vibrant community. The lush environment provides a soothing atmosphere, while shared work in the fields strengthens bonds among tenants.

Additionally, the complex attracts local communities and nearby university faculty, further enriching its dynamic operational model. This approach preserves the nostalgic connection to working the land while integrating it into an urban setting. The blend of plants and people forms a powerful bond, connecting individuals to each other and nature. This concept conserves farmland while fostering a thriving community where nature and human activity coexist harmoniously.
