With the acceleration of urbanization, integrating and preserving traditional cultural elements within urban spaces has emerged as a critical issue for urban planning and artistic design. Guangda Tianjiao International Garden, as an oasis amidst the city, requires its landscape design to embody both modernity and cultural depth. Seizing this opportunity, Dr. Tam's team has created the urban sculpture series titled "Embracing Ink and Concealing Truth," aiming to rejuvenate traditional culture in modern metropolises through the medium of art.
The design inspiration for the "Embracing Ink and Concealing Truth" series deeply roots in Chinese traditional culture, drawing inspiration from classic architectural elements such as drum-shaped stone pillars, chiwen (a mythical beast used as a decorative element), and horse-tethering posts. These elements, not only treasures of ancient Chinese architectural art but also symbols of Chinese culture, have been skillfully fused with modern aesthetics by Dr. Tam's team through the recreation of sculptures, serving as bridges connecting the past with the future.
In terms of material selection, the "Embracing Ink and Concealing Truth" series embodies profound considerations for sustainability. The team innovatively utilizes discarded mineral waste stones as the primary material, rejuvenating these once-regarded-as-waste materials through melting and reshaping techniques. This green and environmentally friendly approach to material selection not only reduces resource waste but also showcases the harmonious coexistence of art and environmental protection.
