Liang Yueh House

This project creates a spacious, open living space within a small apartment. The design is defined by a veneer and light colors, which create a warm Japanese aesthetic. The vestibule paved with tile demarcates the indoor and outdoor spaces. The vestibule features wall-mounted coat hooks, additional space beneath the shoe cabinet, and several storage cabinets. As soon as the resident comes home, they can hang up their coat and store their shoes beneath the shoe cabinet. This arrangement keeps the vestibule tidy and the indoor space clean.

The semitransparent screens in the living room and in the vestibule, which are made of fluted glass, connect the two spaces. When light passes through the screen, one feels as if they are living in nature. The washitsu, a Japanese-style room, is a semi-open space built on raised flooring and cushioned with tatami. The room is the most beloved by the owner because it evokes memories of their childhood. A long table is placed in the washitsu below the window, making it an ideal spot to spend the entire afternoon drinking tea, reading, or gazing at the natural beauty outside the window. When tired, one can simply lie comfortably down on the tatami.

A groove is reserved on the ceiling for curtain rails. When necessary, curtains can be draped for privacy.

The master bedroom is predominantly brown with a window seat. The space is simple, elegant, and not overly decorated, making residents feel relaxed and comfortable.

The other bedroom, which belongs to the owner’s son, is mainly grey color. The room features a desk and bookshelves in the walls for storage or display purposes.
