To provide comprehensive melanoma treatment, doctors at University Hospitals, Case Western Reserve University, hold weekly tumor board meetings to review specific patient cases and develop tailored treatment plans. Alongside these clinical efforts, they conduct ongoing research to assess the effectiveness of current treatments. However, a gap between clinical practices at the tumor board and melanoma research has led to duplicated efforts, costing time and energy for both coordinators and researchers.

Tumor board coordinators currently sift through disparate records, charts, and doctor’s notes to compile patient reports, while researchers follow a similar process to gather the data needed for studies.

MELAbase was designed to streamline workflows by consolidating patient data for tumor boards and research into a single, structured database. With predefined data fields, tumor board coordinators can efficiently enter patient information without navigating complex, lengthy forms. An intuitive tumor board view further simplifies the organization and adjustment of patient case discussions.

In addition, advanced search tools enable researchers to filter patients by various characteristics, providing quick access to aggregated data that drives research insights. Enhanced features, such as keyword linking and search capabilities within pathology reports, also offer both researchers and clinicians a comprehensive view of each patient’s condition, supporting faster, well-informed treatment decisions and guiding research directions.

MELAbase bridges the divide between clinical reporting and research data, helping to expedite the research process and, ultimately, contribute to the most effective treatment for melanoma patients By creating a unified, accessible platform, MELAbase transforms data into actionable insights that will support breakthroughs in melanoma care and improve patient outcomes.
