Description:

Between Force and Stillness is an abstract sculpture inspired by the form of a tennis ball, composed of 24 spheres symbolizing natural rhythms and the cycles of time. It conveys the unity of motion and stillness, reflecting the Tao Te Ching’s philosophy that these forces are interdependent. Motion represents energy and change, while stillness symbolizes balance and tranquility. Together, they create harmony, embodying the principles of nature and the universe. The abstract form invites reflection on nature, time, and space, infused with deep Chinese philosophical meaning.

Design Objective:

The sculpture highlights the dynamic energy of tennis paired with the serene principles of Chinese philosophy. It showcases the harmony between motion and stillness, celebrating Chinese sportsmanship and cultural heritage. Combining modern competition with ancient wisdom, it emphasizes the richness and lasting influence of Chinese culture in international sports.

Design Challenge:

Commissioned by the National Tennis Center for the 2024 tournament, sculptor YuanZhuang managed every detail, from concept creation to cross-time-zone collaboration. She traveled to Beijing to oversee production, ensuring precision and quality. Through Between Force and Stillness

, YuanZhuang not only celebrates Chinese sportsmanship but also integrates modern philosophy with traditional ideas, adding unique appeal to the 2024 event.
