About The Entry

The "Cloudscape of Consciousness" project is an innovative architectural initiative centered around a psychological neurology lab and sensory meditation space located in Upper State New York, near the tranquil Hudson River. By abstracting the intricate processes of memory—constructing, deconstructing, and reconstructing—into a captivating three-dimensional realm, the design team created a sandwich structural system, encompassing the ground, ceiling, and floating spaces between floors. This vertical system incorporates steel columns for compression and cables for tension creating a balanced and cloud-like environment.

To implement this system on a larger scale, the design team opted for a single form, the circle, as the primary architectural element due to its ability to evenly distribute forces and eliminate any structural dead ends. By adjusting the density, slope, and orientation of the cables and columns, the structural system seamlessly transforms into space dividers, giving rise to unique environments tailored to specific programs. These environments now include sleepover spaces for extended stays, enhancing the therapeutic potential of prolonged engagement with the healing environment.

The design also features interconnected circular spaces that enhance users' spatial experience and promote relaxation. As individuals explore these thoughtfully crafted areas, they can enjoy a range of rejuvenating options, including serene water spas, calming meditation zones, and vibrant group recreation spaces. This environment not only fosters personal wellness but also invites neuroscientists to gather insights from practitioners, enriching the overall experience with the latest research. By harmonizing architecture with well-being, this unique ecosystem creates a welcoming atmosphere where individuals can connect, unwind, and thrive.
