Mazu is one of Taiwan’s most important folk faith and cultural symbols, embodying the strength of compassionate protection and societal encouragement. This special art exhibition was centered on Mazu’s religious culture, with “Mazu Paintings” as its theme, establishing the artistic value of Mazu culture. The exhibition incorporated contemporary design thinking in its layout and presentation, following the core curatorial concepts of a fine arts museum, with the hope of deepening public understanding of the value of faith.
This exhibition uniquely partnered with Yunlin artist Huizi, who reinterpreted Mazu culture from an artistic perspective by creating “three-dimensional paintings” that reinvented Mazu’s image. Genuine jewels, feathers, and other embellishments were used to decorate the paintings, infusing them with texture and vitality. A total of 108 Mazu paintings were on display. As Buddhist teachings suggest that there are 108 worldly afflictions, visitors not only admired the artworks but also experienced a profound religious and cultural cleansing, gradually dispelling the 108 kinds of troubles with each piece they encountered.
