Guangzhou Huadu Chuntianli

Located within TOD Guangzhou North Station in Huadu District—the only international hub for air-rail intermodal transport in the Greater Bay Area—the project sits at the convergence of four major industrial clusters. Surrounded by a rich ecological and cultural context, it enjoys seamless connectivity and a full range of urban amenities, including schools, commercial centers, and healthcare institutions. Drawing inspiration from Guangzhou’s historic identity as the "Four Seasons Flower City," the design blends Lingnan cultural heritage with contemporary techniques to reinterpret classical aesthetics. The concept, “Lingnan style, elegant collection of mountains and waters,” expresses the poetic harmony between nature and tradition. The design narrative unfolds in three spatial realms: Chariots and Horses Gathering Hall – a symmetrical, ceremonial entry inspired by Lingnan reverence, featuring copper-plated details and traditional screen walls. Awakening Stones Realm – evokes ancient gardens with towering stones, misty forests, and carefully selected tree species such as pomegranate and iron holly. Soseki Pillow Flow – a tranquil waterscape inspired by Lingnan water towns, with reflective shadow walls, cascading waters, and paving patterns derived from Lingnan brocade window motifs. The project overcomes complex construction and pipeline constraints by adopting small, refined landscape spaces. Locally appropriate shading, greening, and hardscape solutions ensure both beauty and functionality in limited conditions. Materiality plays a key role: dark gray-blue tiles reflect traditional aesthetics, while imitation stone and hammered copper elements embody Huadu’s cultural craftsmanship. Stones and biomimetic surfaces are artfully placed to balance natural rhythm and manmade order. Plants are selected through rigorous, site-specific processes. Each tree was chosen for its form and compatibility with spatial scale, with special attention paid to the harmony between hard and soft landscape elements. Long-term vitality and sustainability are ensured through resilient materials, spatial planning, and careful botanical selection. Overall, the project fuses traditional Lingnan craftsmanship with modern landscape principles, crafting a poetic living environment that balances cultural continuity with contemporary relevance.
