"Between Us" focuses on those families affected by Alzheimer's disease. Alzheimer’s not only causes memory loss, but also disrupts family relationships. Over time, carers may develop emotional stress—such as suppress, doubt, and even hate—that silently damages their relationships. These hidden conflicts are often overlooked by society, leaving families isolated. This project focuses on these emotional tensions to reveal the invisible conflicts behind caregiving.

In terms of visual expression, I chose Chinese characters as the central design element. Unlike English, Chinese characters are highly pictorial and carry a strong emotional resonance. This unique visual structure allows them to express emotion more directly and symbolically. I deliberately downplayed the presence of English text, encouraging viewers—especially English speakers—to first respond emotionally to the characters before interpreting them intellectually. This sequence shifts the emphasis from rational understanding to intuitive feeling.

Each poster focuses on a single dominant emotion. Through techniques like fragmentation, blurring, and distortion, I visualized the inner turmoil and mental struggle embedded in caregiving relationships. The typography becomes not just a vehicle for language, but a metaphorical representation of psychological states.

The goal of this project is to bring public attention to the hidden emotional burden of caregivers. It challenges the romanticized idea that love in caregiving is always unconditional and peaceful. Instead, it invites deeper reflection on the emotional realities experienced by those supporting Alzheimer’s patients.
