This design project aims to blend traditional Chinese Western Region aesthetics with Shanghai-style culture, creating a residential display space that embodies both historical depth and modern taste. The space is themed around "Silk Road Memories" and "Eastern Artistic Conception," using materials, colors, and furnishings to craft a cultural experience that transcends time and space.
The basement level draws inspiration from the Dunhuang market atmosphere. Display cabinets showcase antique-style artifacts, complemented by warm lighting to evoke a serene historical ambience. The tea room features semi-transparent screens and sand-grain motifs, which interact with light and shadow to convey a sense of mystery from the Western Regions, while also providing a tranquil environment for tea drinking and meditation.
In the living room, the TV feature wall mimics the natural texture of wind-eroded landscapes, and the flowing sand patterns in the hanging artwork echo the trails of ancient merchant caravans. The balance between ruggedness and refinement conveys a strong narrative feel. The main bedroom’s wall employs embossed leather craftsmanship to recreate the texture of desert saddlebags—textured and warm under soft lighting, giving the space a distinctive emotional memory.
The overall design emphasizes the integration of modern lifestyles with traditional cultural symbols. Colors such as amber, sand, and gold dust are used alongside natural materials and contemporary techniques. While preserving an artistic quality, the space prioritizes practicality and comfort, ultimately presenting a high-quality show unit that is both perceptible and relatable.
