The theme of this project is "care". The requirement is to explore and select a group of people whoe need to be cared for from the historical background and social environment of downtown Oakland, and to improve the living environment of this group of people by designing urban intervention which meet their current situation and needs, so as to achieve the purpose of care.

The group that the deisgner chose is the elderly people in Chinatown. They have been out of their original cultual environment ffor a long time, but are still not fully integrated into American society due to issues such as communication berriers and racial segregation. The idea of this project is to create social and activity spaces in residential buildings for the elderly people in Chinatown. Make intervention in the building with public spaces, and building interaction for people.
