About The Entry

In New Jersey, USA, we created a spiritual dwelling that transcends geographical boundaries for an elite Chinese-American family. The core proposition of the project to fulfill a deep longing to "replicate the Eastern sense of ease in an American home." This was not a mere transplantation of style but a poetic dialogue between cultural and modern living. We used "natural wind Eastern aesthetics" as the coordinates, eschewing the accumulation of symbols and translating the essence of "mountain, water, pine and moon" into a tangible breath in the space, constructing a "mountain and water that can be touched."

The biggest highlight of the design is its "substance over form" approach, instead the essence of Eastern aesthetics—negative space, nature, and introspection—with the simplicity and fluidity of modern design. The overall space exudes a tranquil "ed feeling", which stems from the precise control of scale, the guidance of natural light, and the respect for the beauty of the materials themselves, allowing residents to experience the spiritual core in a non-Eastern physical space.
