About The Entry

MediNest is a digital platform that empowers rural healthcare providers in Nepal to deliver standardized and continuous maternity care, helping reduce maternal deaths in remote areas.

Maternal mortality remains high in rural Nepal due to limited access to quality care and the absence of a systematic medical network. MediNest addresses these challenges through a low-cost, scalable solution that considers both short- and long-term impact.

In the short term, local doctors drive Mobile Medical Units (RVs) to villages, bringing essential maternity services directly to pregnant women. The platform records each woman’s entire maternity journey and provides local doctors with tutorials created by urban specialists, ensuring consistent and standardized medical practices. A drone delivery system supplies critical medicines and equipment to areas that are otherwise difficult to reach.

In the long term, MediNest fosters sustainable change by strengthening the capacity of local doctors and improving women’s awareness of maternal health through continuous education during maternity care.

By integrating medical training, digital record-keeping, and supply management into one cohesive ecosystem, MediNest makes maternity care more connected, efficient, and equitable. It envisions a world where quality maternal care is accessible to every woman. Its adaptable model can be replicated in other low-resource regions, demonstrating how design and technology can work together to save lives.
