GENTING THE AURORA

The project is located in Jinan, Shandong, a city rich in history and cultural significance. The design seeks to incorporate the region’s unique cultural characteristics by using local elements as the foundation for the spatial concept. Drawing inspiration from the city’s renowned mountains, stones, and springs, the design revolves around three core elements:

"Mountain Bones": Representing Jinan’s geographical essence.

"Cloud Veins": Symbolizing the layered flow of the spatial narrative.

"Stone Soul": Embodying permanence and resilience.

In addition, the design reinterprets Jinan’s intangible cultural heritage—such as Lu embroidery, wood carving, and shadow puppetry—through a contemporary lens. These traditional elements are integrated into the space to create a cultural experience that “begins with immersion in landscape and culminates in spiritual cultivation.” The goal is to transform the club into an urban living room that balances both functionality and deep cultural meaning.

The intangible cultural heritage pieces featured in the project were crafted in collaboration with local masters of these traditions, from initial sketches to final execution. This required ongoing communication and adjustments with the artisans to ensure authenticity and high-quality craftsmanship.

The soft furnishings play a key role in promoting this cultural heritage. Every piece was an entirely original creation, developed in partnership with the masters, and serves as a medium to showcase Jinan's traditional artistry in a modern context. The project’s overall aim is to create a harmonious environment that honors both the city’s cultural legacy and contemporary design, fostering an immersive experience for all who visit.
