The name "ShanMu" is derived from the poetic deconstruction of "Clouds and Mountains Bathed in Brocade." Amidst the clamor of the urban context, this project attempts to reshape a residential philosophy of retreating into the mountains. The design transcends mere spatial creation to construct a state of mind. Driven by the core pursuit of "seeking a place of tranquility to enjoy a moment of peace," we utilize the expansion and contraction of space, the warmth of materials, and the flow of light and shadow to transform the architecture into a vessel of nature. The moment visitors step inside, they strip away their restlessness and return to their authentic selves.
The spatial layout eschews a straightforward narrative in favor of mimicking the rhythm of natural landscapes:
Mimicking Nature: We utilize the staggered interlacing of raw wood structures and the organic enclosure of greenery to replicate the layered depth of "cloud-shrouded peaks" indoors.
Circulation Metaphor: Public areas resemble expansive mountain realms, fostering serendipitous encounters; private zones evoke deep valleys and ravines, where winding circulation paths guide residents to "seek" and discover their own secluded corners.
Textural Tapestry: We selected reclaimed wood bearing the marks of time. Its mottled texture resembles a "brocade" woven by the years; warm to the touch, it not only echoes the imagery of "bathing in brocade" but also infuses the space with a healing sense of being gently soothed by nature.
Intelligent lighting is not an obtrusive accumulation of technology, but rather hides within the wooden structures in a way that "moistens things silently," becoming the soul painter of the atmosphere:
Sculpting with Light: We broke through the singular mode of traditional lighting by introducing dimmable spotlights and concealed light strips.
Daytime "Sun-Bathed" Mode: A 5000K natural color temperature clearly renders the textures of the wood and details of the artifacts, creating the crisp sensation of a mountain forest where the morning mist has just dispersed.
Nighttime "Silken Mist" Mode: Switching to a 3000K warm light, the illumination focuses on greenery and old wood furnishings, resembling the mountain moon appearing and disappearing.
