Nestled among the lush hills and winding waters of Jiuxi, Hangzhou, the project offers a tranquil retreat where nature and urban life converge. Rooted in the philosophy of “dwelling within nature,” the design cultivates an atmosphere of elegance and seclusion, creating a sanctuary that highlights harmony between people and the environment.

The courtyard gently bridges the architecture and its surroundings. A stone path winds like a stream, leading toward the private residence veiled by lush greenery. Beneath quiet pines, dappled light scatters across the ground in shifting patterns. Soft lighting subtly illuminates the garden, offering residents an immersive experience of nature.

The design establishes a clear distinction between active and quiet zones. In the active zone, the dining room and kitchen are connected by fluid circulation, with a glass sliding door maintaining visual openness. Leather chairs encircle a round dining table beneath pendant lamps that diffuse a warm, ambient glow. The study is calm yet open, with wooden textures echoing one another and greenery outside offering inspiration. A corridor links public and private areas, where light plays across the walls and floor, drawing the eye toward a touch of greenery at its end.

In the quiet zone, the living room becomes the heart of family life, with softly curved fabric sofas paired with a dark wooden coffee table, and shelves holding art books and cherished memories. Full-height windows draw in daylight and frame the outdoor scenery. The master bedroom exudes calm elegance, where sunlight filters through sheer curtains onto the floor, and the bed and sofa, set on either side of wooden screens, balance intimacy with connection. Outside, pine trees compose a living scroll of shifting views. Ascending to the third floor, the studio nestles within greenery, where sunlight pours in to create a pure space where nature and art converge.

The design draws on the Taoist wisdom from the Tao Te Ching. Rather than seeking overt expression, it finds balance in dialogue with the surrounding landscape. The solidity of stone, the warmth of wood, and the play of light and shadow intertwine, imbuing every space with composure and tranquility.
