Deconstructed Scenery

Approaching from a modern humanistic perspective, this project explores the spatial planning needs of the elderly in contemporary residential living, particularly regarding spatial order, perceptual habits, and the stability of circulation flow. The design objective goes beyond providing complete functionality; it also treats the space as a deconstructible interior landscape, where the circulation paths extend a sense of shifting scenery with each step, creating both aesthetic richness and decorative expression.



Before finalising the layout, volumetric deconstruction is set as the primary ordering principle. By breaking away from the conventional use of solid interior walls as partitions, the space is transformed into a layered system defined by mediating elements such as cabinetry, frames, and glass. This mode of composition maintains functional clarity while reconfiguring the connection between public and private realms. The space can thus shift from enclosed zoning to a permeable, integrated interplay of solid and void, while still forming a clear spatial sequence through lines of sight.



Transparency and light are regarded as the primary essence of the space. Through visual penetration, the extension of light, and the displacement of volumes, the interior creates a sense of “depth” and “layering” akin to that found in architectural structures. While preserving the openness brought by the dissolution of boundaries, the design responds to the visual sense of security relied upon by the elderly within a clearly comprehensible environment, thus fulfilling the anticipated functional needs.



Material application serves as the main structural element of this project rather than merely a surface decoration. The balanced proportioning of stone-textured surfaces, wood grain finishes, and dark metal elements forms the structural backbone of the space. As one moves through façades and circulation paths shaped by these materials, the interplay of light and shadow, enhanced by spatial transparency, becomes more perceptible and immersive.
