Located in the core region of Taichung’s historic district, "Yung-Shang Zhuo-Yue" is confronted with the dual challenges of preserving urban heritage while mitigating safety risks in aging structures. Through the Reconstruction of Dilapidated Buildings framework, the project is envisioned as a high-rise residential landmark featuring 4 basement levels and 17 floors above ground. It aims to revitalize the block's functionality by integrating high-standard structural safety with modern technology to deliver a premium urban living solution.
The architectural image harmonizes the symmetrical proportions of Neoclassicism with contemporary technical. Tailored to the subtropical climate of central Taiwan, the facade chooses deep eaves and a multilayered metal grid system. which effectively mitigates thermal radiation and regulates the indoor micro-climate and embeds a rhythmic lightness that contrasts with the gravitas of stone, redefining the layers of the high-rise skyline.
The design strategically sacrifices a portion of the building coverage to release the site’s corner, which is creating a Corner Square. It serves as a "micro-forest" for the neighborhood. For night illumination, the project adopts a "low-illuminance, high-legibility" lighting strategy. By using light and shadow to delineate the building's contours, the design ensures pedestrian safety with minimizing light pollution.Indeed, the lighting plan transforms the structure into a warm navigational beacon that guides residents back home.
As a paradigm of sustainable residential management, the project fully integrates universal design principles. From the zero-threshold pedestrian system of the corner square to the spacious vertical movement line within the building, every detail is meticulously crafted to ensure that the elderly and individuals with limited mobility, which can experience a dignified, safe, and barrier-free vertical living environment.
By combining physical energy-saving strategies with intelligent system management, the project aims for Green Building Certification. The natural ventilation effect, generated by the deep eaves and layered louvers, significantly reduces HVAC energy consumption, and demonstrated the adaptability and environmental responsibility of high-rise residences in the face of extreme climate conditions.
