Yuhe Wetland Park (850,400 m²) sits beside the North Branch of the Palace Museum and the scenic Nansha River. The project redefines the water-city relationship, moving beyond conventional stormwater detention models. It introduces an innovative strategy of “dual-use for daily and emergency scenarios, integrating production, living, and ecology,” transforming a former flood-threatened, ecologically degraded village into a living, breathing natural wetland.
The park serves three integrated functions: stormwater detention, ecological restoration, and public recreation. Therefore, this project has three main innovative points.
Innovation Point1: Dual-use for normal and emergency situations
Through rational water level design and flood control, the park can detain 691,000 m³ of upstream floodwater under maximum design standards, providing a safety foundation for a 15.7 km² urban area and over 120,000 residents.
Innovation Point2:Expand ecological space and enrich visitor experience
Preserving existing trees and using over 98% native plants, the park establishes a spatial framework of “one lake, two embankments, twelve islets,” creating rich habitats and stable plant communities along shorelines and forest edges. Six water purification circulation systems ensure water quality, emphasizing “purification + experience”—including rockery cascades formed by elevation changes, a children’s waterfront play area, and a gently flowing forest stream. This restores the ecological baseline while enriching visitor experiences.
Innovation Point3:Incorporate diverse spaces and infuse a humanistic charm
With 24 designed waterfront scenes, the park gives the shoreline lasting vitality. Attractions such as Sunny Beach, Waterfront Pier, Heart-of-the-Lake Covered Bridge, and Cloud Terrace Overlook offer diverse spaces for joy, panoramic views, and quiet contemplation. The park also harmonizes with the architectural character of the Palace Museum’s North Branch, expressing a distinctive cultural spirit.
By integrating water management with landscape design, Yuhe Wetland Park creates a public space where safety and resilience go hand in hand with ecological restoration, and where nature and culture shine together.
