About The Entry

‘A-Surge’ reimagines facade design as public art. It extends a conventional building envelope, a logistics warehouse in Taiwan, by transforming it into an installation of digital art and brand innovation.

Designed by YEN TING CHO Studio, this commissioned project for Ally Logistic Property (ALP) employs the studio’s self-developed software to translate logistics data into dynamic digital patterns that visually represent the momentum and evolution of the logistics industry. The visual concept is anchored in the letter ‘A’, derived from the client’s logo and abstracted through layered geometries, while also evoking the silhouette of Taiwan’s iconic Hehuan Mountain as a metaphor for ascent and ambition. We divided the facade into two layers: the modular front layer conveys the client’s organizational unity, while the bespoke rotated rear layer builds dynamic, interwoven relationships of lines. The interplay of the layers creates shifting visual effects, subtly forming the ‘A’ motif as a symbol of the client’s innovation and its ten-year journey to become an international business.

The four facades are designed as a unified, circular composition that represent the logistics flow of the client’s business and respond to the site topography. Convinced that both innovation and breakthroughs come from people, we assigned each of the client’s eight departments a unique colour according to their connection with technology, humanity and innovation. By piecing together colour blocks of varying scales, we intentionally introduced visual irregularity which conveys the different rhythm and speed of each facade. To soften the corners and edges, we strategically used black blocks at transition points, making the overall appearance from a distance seem like an interconnected circular form.

The patterns are applied with high resolution UV-resistant digital print to Type 430 steel panels, selected for their durability and glossy surface, which accentuates the vibrant colours. As light, distance and movement alter perception, the facade continuously changes and offers viewers a participatory visual experience. By merging technology-driven design, architectural form and artistic expression, ‘A-Surge’ elevates industrial infrastructure into a landmark of public art, where the facade becomes both a canvas and interface for cultural and urban engagement.
