Designed by P&H Interior Architecture Design, this riverside villa project abandons the priority of efficiency and rigid spatial division, focusing on constructing a holistic experiential field rooted in the warmth of lived experience. Its core highlight lies in reinterpreting British elegance, order and ritual from a contemporary perspective, moving beyond the superficial "old money" aesthetic to return to the cultural and spiritual essence of British style, which aligns with the international design competition’s emphasis on cultural inheritance and innovative expression.
Inspired by Shanghai’s historic garden houses that blend Shanghainese refinement with British elegance, designer Lu Zhenfeng integrates the city’s balance of modernity and nostalgia into the design, creating spaces that are both livable and aesthetically pleasing. The reception area, with its seamless flooring flow, upholstered furniture and natural textured wall coverings, simulates a relaxed garden tea party atmosphere, forming an emotional first impression.
Key design highlights include the dialogue between interior and exterior: the riverside landscape reinforces the classic European temperament, while custom outdoor-style stone paving, crafted with interior refinement, dissolves rigid spatial boundaries. Meticulous attention to detail—from floor grid patterns to furniture contours and stone inlays—embodies classical aesthetics and contemporary comfort.
The bar space, integrating Art Deco geometric order and Shanghai Bund carved stone language, serves as both a functional element and a spatial landmark. Combined with carefully selected contemporary artworks and nostalgic collectibles, it embeds personal memories, making the space a projection of lived experience. Ultimately, the project achieves a harmony of order and freedom, classicism and contemporaneity, presenting a profound residential philosophy that meets the international competition’s criteria for creativity, craftsmanship and emotional resonance.
