From Packaging to Sculpture: Luxury Reimagined
Four Functions, One Permanent Presence
Designed for a premium gin bottle, the sculptural secondary packaging reimagines a traditionally disposable object as a permanent, multifunctional system. Secondary packaging is normally discarded immediately after unboxing; this design challenges that norm by creating a purpose for retention through form, function, and presence.
The bottle celebrates the island of Brač with a cap made of Brač stone and a wax detail unique to each bottle, replicating the wall of a traditional island stone house. The secondary packaging extends this narrative, embodying the island’s material identity in sculptural form, where heritage, ritual, and materiality converge.
The structure consists of two components. Closed, the assembly stands as a monolithic architectural form, fully autonomous within an interior. When opened, the upper component is inverted to function as a presentation stand, transforming the act of serving gin into a deliberate ritual. The two elements operate independently, yet together compose a cohesive spatial installation.
Multifunctionality serves both practical and conceptual purposes. Operating across four configurations — protective packaging, presentation stand, singular sculpture, and dual-object installation — the design extends the object’s use beyond its initial purpose, redefining interaction with packaging and establishing it as a collectible object.
Sculpture is not an outcome but a strategy: a sculptural presence gives the object a reason to be kept, making longevity both material and behavioral—shifting packaging from disposable to permanent.
Evoking the gravitas and tactility of Brač stone, the object is realized in a custom-developed polymer composite. Long embedded in the architectural and material identity of the Adriatic region, Brač stone carries cultural associations of permanence, craftsmanship, and enduring legacy.
By combining sculptural form, multifunctionality, and material authenticity, the design transforms secondary packaging from a transient object into one of lasting value, presence, and purpose.
