Evanescent is an immersive, light and sound temporary environment that aims to capture the concept of ephemerality and transience is a visual form: the bubble. Evanescent is an adjective, meaning the quality of being fleeting or vanishing quickly; impermanence.
The artwork was inspired during the pandemic, when the world stopped and everything we took for granted started to disappear. This helped the world realise the fragility and transience of life. Atelier Sisu endeavoured to communicate this feeling of transient beauty, and the need to live in the moment through the idea of the bubble. The bubble, as something temporary and beautiful that needs to be appreciated in the moment.
By day, Evanescent captures the light of the sun through its colour-reflecting dichroic film that reacts to the changing light as it moves across the sky, casting a rainbow of reflection across the ground and a unique picture from every angle. By night, and internally choreographed light show illuminates the artwork providing a vastly different experience for the audience. The artwork is accompanied by an etherial soundscape, composed specifically for the artwork by Joseph Burgess (Unregistered Master Builder).
This art-chitecture connects audiences with their environment and it is designed to be truly inclusive. By emulating the ethereal quality and magic of bubbles, Atelier Sisu’s Evanescent appeals to our universal playfulness and childlike wonder, the work encourages the audience to consider the world around them as a space of transience and fragility, like that of a bubble.
