We designed a photo collection of , which is the opening exhibition of the Museum Korea-U.S. Samcheong. As a historical exhibition that looks back on the past 50 years of Korean photography, we follow in the footsteps of what institutional conditions Korean photography made history from 1929 to 1982. We were directly inspired by the word ‘photo’ because it is an exhibition photo book that looks back on Korea’s photography history over the past 50 years. Black and white were actively used as design elements on the cover and interior of the book, using photographic techniques that are printed in the way of light and darkness. The exhibition title is ‘Inside Out’, so we used intuitive parentheses as graphic elements. To express light and darkness, the paper on the cover was made in two versions: black and white. The black version is hot foil stamping with glossy black and glossy red, and the white version is hot foil stamping with pearl and glossy red. We printed it on matte paper so that the pictures of the past could be realized well. The book was tied with thread so that it could be fully unfolded and the back of the book has not adhered to. We designed this book hoping that it will be a memorable book so that visitors to the exhibition can feel their feelings and thoughts about Korea’s photo history even after the exhibition. Along with the exhibition, the book will help follow the footsteps of Korean photography under what institutional conditions it has made history and will be a valuable opportunity to establish Korea's photography history. Over the years, we reviewed and organized the “LIMB Eungsik’s Scrapbook,” the largest archive of Korean photographers owned by Museum Hanmi. Based on this, we collected and organized photo materials with the help of various related organizations, bereaved families, and writers. Through this, we found the lost link in Korean photography history and filled the gap in the “scrapbook.” These efforts will serve as a foundation for academic attempts to establish the history of Korean photography.
