2023 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Taipei

The Formosan blue magpie chirping melodiously and beautiful flowers blooming and dancing with music. A heart filled with hope and gratitude rises up like a morning sun along with the rhythm of the light and sound effect. The heart symbolizes the concept of “Starting from the Heart, Starting Over Again.” The papa Magpie flaps its wings while the mama Magpie and their chicks representing the birth of a new life look up to their brave and fearless father that soars up high to the sky with the music.

The six themed zones of The 2023 Taiwan Lantern Festival spans the over-50-year-old National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, turning the architecture volume into a canvas every night and projecting light sculpture on the theme of the beauty of Taiwan.

Among all the light art, “Starting from The Heart, Starting Over Again” is one of the auxiliary lanterns that depicts the tree rooting deep down in the land of Taiwan. Accompanied with a family of Formosan blue magpies and surrounded by beautiful Taiwanese flowers from all seasons, the 3-dimensional light art glowing outwardly is achieved by electro-mechanical engineering design and aesthetic color palettes through quintessential craftsmanship.

Besides the perfect visual display during the day, the lantern is animated during the night with light and sound every 30 minutes, elevating the creative art into an ultimate visual, acoustic and spiritual feast of art.

Since 2013, the team has begun to apply LED lights in their designs to achieve the best energy efficiency. The fabrics they use are mostly eco-friendly that could slowly resolve after a period of time. The steel applied could be recycled and reused. The design team focuses on integrating their design with local culture, living experience and blessing for the future. In order to take care of the environment, the team put effort into every detail of the design. While enjoying the beauty of the lantern, people can sense the wishes and blessings the lantern masters hoped for the young generations.
