This design centers on creating a“ light source balance” concept, fostering a warm, connected atmosphere in a 30-year-old residence in Neihu. Given the home’s feng shui requirements, natural light was prioritized in private areas, requiring creative lighting in public spaces. To address this, the designer implemented an artificial skylight effect, introducing ambient lighting to add dynamic contrast and depth to the communal areas. The design focuses on open-concept living, catering to the needs of a small family with ample space for interaction and children’s play. A soothing palette of warm wood tones, gray shades, and touches of lake green creates a serene backdrop for daily life.
The renovation posed challenges typical of older homes, such as limited natural light and structural restrictions. To fulfill the client's wish for natural light in the master bedroom, the designer developed an “internal skylight” with circular lighting in the living and dining areas to mimic daylight, creating a bright focal point. Ceiling variations and lighting angles were creatively adjusted to turn structural limitations into unique design features.
Throughout the process, the designer emphasized client needs, including a family-friendly layout and integration of storage for work-related items and parcels. Functional, hidden cabinetry and multipurpose furniture—such as movable bench drawers—maximize space usage. A smart lighting system further enhances the home’s adaptability, allowing adjustment of brightness and color temperature to suit various moods and activities.
In sum, this design respects feng shui principles while ensuring practical functionality and daily convenience, encapsulating a high level of client-focused service. By combining traditional considerations with innovative solutions, the space serves as both a serene sanctuary and a functional family hub, tailored to the client’s lifestyle.
