This project aims to renovate the old quay windbreaks in Le Havre, reshaping the urban landscape while creating new cultural spaces for the citizens. Innovative techniques and aesthetic approaches are employed to transform and rejuvenate the industrial heritage site that bears the city's memories of war and trade, reconstructing the symbolic space of the city.
Preserving the existing structure, this project features a new extension whose exposed steel frames echo the sense of industrial order of Brise-Vent Havre, with transparent panels to add a sense of lightness to the building. In addition, the streamlined facade connects to the original framework, creating a space for public events. The Brise-Vent Havre Museum serves as an interactive museum. Coffee shops and grasslands are newly added to offer a recreational hub for contemporary public life. These two spaces are linked by a "bridge" that acts as an atrium and transit hub.
Drawing inspiration from Le Havre's port, this new project will serve as a terminal for energy-efficient ferry shuttles, connecting visitors to the dynamic waterfront. This renovation enables the entire building to be seamlessly incorporated into the surrounding landscape, transforming the site into a space for relaxation, entertainment, and scenic interaction. This evolution—from resisting nature to harnessing and ultimately embracing it, aligns with modern values of sustainability and harmonious coexistence while adding fresh significance to Le Havre's collective memory centered on its historic port.
