About The Entry

Dysphagia represents a significant health challenge, affecting approximately 10-15% of the global population, with around 15% of patients experiencing severe dysphagia. These individuals often find it difficult to consume food normally and may depend on nasal feeding or intravenous nutrition. In response to this issue, Taste Reverie is dedicated to restoring the enjoyable dining experience and fostering social engagement for these patients through the use of virtual reality and multi-sensory technology. The product innovatively integrates the senses of smell, touch, and sight to replicate food's aroma, texture, and dynamics within a dining context. By offering personalized virtual dining environments—such as family gatherings or restaurant settings—Taste Reverie aims to effectively mitigate the feelings of loneliness and emotional distress often faced by patients, thereby enhancing their confidence in the healing process.

In contrast to products currently available in the market that offer a single-sensory experience, Taste Reverie adopts a comprehensive multi-sensory approach. The product is equipped with an olfactory generator, tactile gloves, and VR glasses, allowing users not only to visualize food but also to experience its aroma and tactile qualities. This immersive sensory stimulation aims to assist patients in reclaiming the pleasure of eating in a virtual environment.

From a design perspective, the research and development team prioritized ergonomic considerations. The streamlined aesthetics reduce the mechanical appearance typically associated with medical devices. Additionally, the magnetic adjustment feature of the nasal fixator enables users to tailor its position according to their individual needs, ensuring stability and comfort during use. Furthermore, the flexible design of the haptic glove permits the simulation of various textures, such as slippery, crunchy, and hard, thereby providing users with a more authentic and nuanced tactile experience.
