As the challenges posed by nuclear wastewater discharge and rising sea levels become increasingly severe, coastal cities face significant threats to their sustainability and survival. The release of nuclear wastewater contributes to the deterioration of coastal water quality, accumulating radioactive substances within the food chain. This phenomenon poses a serious risk to marine ecosystems and has long-term implications for human health. In this context, WaterBubble has been developed to offer sustainable solutions for urban areas grappling with climate crises and resource shortages.
WaterBubble implements innovative strategies utilizing smart management systems to facilitate the transition of cities toward a digital and environmentally friendly development model. By employing digital twin technology, the system can monitor the dissemination of nuclear pollutants and real-time changes in water quality. Concurrently, it provides critical data regarding the efficiency of nuclear wastewater purification processes, the productivity of vertical farms, and the operational status of building systems, thereby equipping managers with essential decision-making support. Incorporating big data analytics and artificial intelligence, WaterBubble can dynamically optimize the distribution of resources such as water, electricity, and air within buildings, ensuring the optimal utilization of ecological assets. Additionally, an interactive early warning system is integrated to promptly address emergencies, safeguarding the building and its inhabitants.
Inspired by Le Corbusier's modularity theory and the principles of Lego construction, the research and development team has adopted an innovative modular design. This design allows for flexible adaptation to complex underwater environments and supports rapid deployment, making it applicable globally to provide standardized solutions for various coastal cities facing climate change and resource scarcity. Each module is capable of independent operation or flexible interconnection, forming larger systems as required, which enhances adaptability. The spherical design of the building modules maximizes buoyancy and minimizes resistance in underwater settings, thereby ensuring stability and versatility. Moreover, the gentle and circular aesthetic symbolizes the continuity of life and ecological restoration, offering the occupants psychological comfort and a sense of security.
