Located along the ancient canal in Yangzhou, this project draws inspiration from the timeless aesthetics of classical Jiangnan gardens—those elegant landscapes south of the Yangtze River. Drawing from the artistic conception of “Green Mountains, Green Waters” portrayed by Southern Song Dynasty painter Liu Songnian, the design harmoniously integrates spatial arrangements with refined landscaping techniques to evoke the poetic imagery of “Under a small bridge and near a cottage, a stream flows.” The result is a distinctive space that captures both the essence of Yangzhou’s identity and the charm of Jiangnan gardens.
The fluid circulation layout seamlessly connects the commercial district with the hotel-style community entrance, creating an iconic urban landmark. Along the street frontage, the design pays tribute to the historical legacy of Guoqing Road while introducing three distinct alley spaces infused with Jiangnan characteristics: Flower Alley, Lixi Alley, and Daiwa Alley. Here, traditional lane culture truly meets modern architectural aesthetics.
At the main entrance, a centuries-old crape myrtle tree stands as a symbolic centerpiece, representing auspiciousness and prosperity through its cultural association with the saying, “auspicious purple mist arriving from the east.” This element enhances the sense of ceremony and dignity at the entryway. The sunken courtyard employs traditional Yangzhou rock-stacking techniques, complemented by a striking six-meter waterfall to create an immersive three-dimensional spatial experience spatial experience reminiscent of a classical landscape pavilion.
Material selection further elevates the project’s atmosphere. Pathways are paved with natural stones such as Angola Black and Star River Dark Gray, accented with artistic inlays and textured cyan bricks to cultivate a serene and refined ambiance. The building facades feature a primary color palette of bronze gold, dark gray curry, and translucent green, enriched by expressive materials like Amazon Green extravagant stone, hand-forged metal, and liquid marble, evoking a sense of understated modern luxury. Traditional Yangzhou craftsmanship is subtly integrated into the finer details, from the ornamental entrance walls to the meticulously finished corner treatments. These elements not only resonate with the city’s rich cultural heritage but also embrace modern design technologies, reflecting a thoughtful continuation of craftsmanship spirit.
