Located on the northeast mountaintop of Pingtan Island, overlooking the East China Sea, this manor-style resort hotel draws inspiration from Pengqiu, a mythical fairyland from ancient Chinese legend. With a core concept of “purity, sacredness, and nature,” the project blends white minimalism with regional island culture, creating a spiritual coastal destination for weddings and leisure. The architectural design embraces white minimalism, using pure white geometric forms and smooth lines to create a sculptural aesthetic. Facades feature matte white paint and local light-colored stone, forming a sharp contrast with the surrounding sea and sky, reinforcing the timeless and tranquil atmosphere. A key design element is the repetitive sequence of arched windows, modeled with golden ratio proportions to evoke the solemnity of a church. Made of ultra-clear glass, these arches allow natural light to form poetic corridors by day and transform into candlelit sanctuaries by night. The project emphasizes local material strategies, utilizing volcanic rock and coral stone from the island to reflect primitive textures, paired with minimalistic white surfaces to express the dialogue between tradition and modernity. These stones are reclaimed from abandoned quarries and old buildings, promoting sustainability. Spatially, the hotel adopts a manor layout, symmetrically arranged around a central lobby. Villas and guest rooms extend along both sides, interconnected by winding paths that mimic the island’s coastline. Natural light and shadow play a key role, casting dynamic patterns across textured stone surfaces to evoke a sense of movement and sacred rhythm. The landscape design integrates salt-tolerant native plants, mirrored water features, and serene rooftop succulent gardens. Ritual elements include a 100-meter white walkway flanked by reflecting pools and a seaside lawn with an arched floral trellis for weddings, echoing the building’s arched motifs. Through the interplay of form, material, and light, this project transforms architecture into a spiritual realm—a place that not only offers rest, but also symbolizes love, nature, and eternity.
