The project is situated in Fengqing County, Yunnan Province, where local regulations mandate that the architectural facade adhere to the traditional Bai ethnic style, characterized by white walls, gray tiled sloping roofs, and a strict height limitation. To optimize space utilization while ensuring dual viewing platforms for both external and internal perspectives, the designer strategically staggered the heights of the building’s functional blocks. By carefully delineating steps and circulation routes, the design ingeniously incorporates a third usable floor within the constraints of a height restriction that typically permits only two floors.

The building’s functionality is organized across three distinct levels. The ground floor houses a publicly accessible bar and courtyard, functioning as a café during the day and transitioning to a bar at night, complete with a fire pit for tea brewing. On the second floor, a cantilevered orange box serves as the client’s music studio, featuring a square aperture that offers a view into the bar below. The third floor comprises a private residential suite with one bedroom, one living room, and one bathroom. A dedicated private entry route is established from the building’s side, guiding residents through a corner courtyard and up a rear staircase to the third-floor garden terrace, where expansive views unfold. The bedroom is equipped with a large skylight, enabling residents to gaze at the starry sky on clear, cloudless nights.
