Soaring Fu Lu

The inspiration for this series originates from the ancient mural figure of the “Flying Apsaras.” Their fluttering ribbons embody grace, freedom, and transcendence, weaving a rhythm of music and dance that conveys both serenity and vitality.

In the design, I seek to merge the philosophical essence of the East with humanity’s universal longing for a beautiful life. A single ribbon flows through and around a gourd, expressing both fluidity and lightness while ensuring structural balance and functionality. The gourd, a timeless symbol, carries meanings of protection and abundance, granting the work a deeper cultural resonance beyond its form.

Crafted in 24K gold, the ribbon’s trajectory shimmers with metallic luster, echoing the flowing lines as though sheer fabric were drifting through the air. Its spiraling embrace around the gourd creates a visual rhythm of tension and release—like a melody unfolding in space—harmonious, continuous, and alive. The viewer is transported into a celestial realm, where faint music lingers and the vision of ethereal dancers unfurls before their eyes.

Just as ancient murals conveyed aspirations for an ideal life, this work seeks to carry that romance and wisdom into the present. The Flying Apsaras are not only a cultural symbol of Eastern art but also an enduring metaphor for freedom, lightness, and humanity’s eternal desire for beauty. Through this piece, I hope to bring such weightless blessings into contemporary life, making them a lasting expression of poetry within the everyday.
