At the Antonín Dvořák Birth House, visitors explore an interactive exhibition that connects the composer’s humble childhood in 19th-century Nelahozeves, Czech Republic with his musical legacy as a world-renowned composer and musician. The museum immerses guests in Dvořák’s early world — helping in his father’s tavern or playing violin in the local church — while showing how these formative experiences shaped his compositions. Authentic artifacts, interactive displays, audiovisual media, live music, and original settings bring his story to life.
As part of the Lobkowicz Collections and Museums, the museum also supports musical training for young professionals, making it a place where music can be experienced across history, culture, and practice. One of the fundamental aims of RAA’s design was to tell a story that could only be told in Nelahozeves. A key feature is an innovative interactive audio system, guided by RFID tags, which engages visitors of all ages and attracts new generations to Dvořák’s work.
Nelahozeves, the small Bohemian village where Dvořák was born, serves as both the physical and symbolic center of the experience. It was here that his love of music began, making his way from humble beginnings to worldwide acclaim. For all his success, Dvořák never forgot his humble roots, which led to a continuous reflection on the time and place in which he was born — inside a humble tavern building in the heart of a small 19th century village. The house itself, and its context in Nelahozeves, are the focal point of the experience, around which all other stories take place.
