About The Entry

Inspired by the cello étude Flight of the Bumblebee, a young musician embarked on her first venture into jewelry design. Initially, her performance was a mere display of technical skill until she sensed a swift, earthbound energy within the rapid chromatic scales. It was no longer the buzz of a bumblebee but the sinuous glide of a serpent, agile, mysterious, and brimming with primal vitality. This led to an epiphany: art is about feeling, not control. It is the shedding of technique’s old skin to breathe the truth of life. The serpent is the deep bass of the earth, the music of silence; the cello, a visible melody in the air, a living serpent. This brooch, titled A Dialogue Between Wildness and Civilization, stands as a profound testament to this metamorphosis of music and life.

Created over three months, the piece itself embodies the fusion of wildness and civilization. The designer boldly unites 18K gold and titanium, two precious metals of contrasting temperaments. The sword-like body of the instrument represents refined civilization, while the coiling serpent symbolizes untamed wildness. The serpent’s deep, captivating indigo emerges through repeated firings of titanium at precisely controlled temperatures, a chromatic miracle born of precision. Setting sapphires and diamonds on resilient titanium pushes the limits of craftsmanship, where even the slightest deviation can undo the entire process. Ultimately, where danger meets beauty and earth meets sky, the brooch transcends ornamentation to become a philosophical work of art, silently narrating the eternal dialogue between wildness and civilization.
