The installation of a minimal toilet is carried out on the ground floor of a single-family house located on Calle Sabadell, in Fuencarral (Madrid), in the Poblado Dirigido designed by Carvajal and Romany in 1957. The toilet, which is very small, manages to expand the visual space thanks to the mirror that covers the entire side wall and the corner-stained glass windows that recreate a maritime landscape. The tiles, in black and white, evoke the fall, like rainwater, from a white sky to a watery black floor. The windows in the corner are made of glass printed with the image of a poster of the East Coast of the British Railway, the drawing of the windows is continuous from each other, so that it envelops the space and takes you into the blue of the sea of the Coast. The sanitary appliances are of high-quality design to be able to adapt to the small space, being functional and elegant at the same time. The floor, toilet and black shower tray are in the background in front of the coloured light that passes through the windows. All this is reflected in the mirror, generating the optical illusion of being in a bright, cheerful and holiday space.
Thus, one end of the hallway is used to install a toilet (which the ground floor lacks) in a minimum space of 97 cm x 128 cm. Due to its smallness, this space must be cheerful, fun and seem very large, that is, multiply the space with deep landscapes or mirrors. For this magic, they have resorted to the advertising posters of the British summer by train to the beaches of the East Coast. In the toilet we take a playful trip to the EAST COAST JOYS, travel by LNER, (The London & North Eastern Railway) to the drier side of Britain.
