As Bao’an District emerges as one of Shenzhen’s new engines of growth, the Xinhu Road Transit Corridor—its only north–south secondary arterial—serves as the central spine linking Bao’an Central District with the Qianhai Cooperation Zone. The corridor is now shifting from a traffic-dominated roadway into a people-oriented transit corridor and a defining public realm for Shenzhen’s new urban center.
The Shenzhen Xinhu Road Transit Corridor Urban Design Plan applies big-data typological analysis to understand mobility patterns, street vitality, and development potential along the 6.2-kilometer corridor. These insights shape clear design objectives for repositioning Xinhu Road as a vibrant everyday urban environment that integrates transit, landscape, community life, and metropolitan density.
The plan structures the corridor into three thematic segments—Gateway, Bazaar, and Park—forming the overarching “1 + 3 + N” spatial framework. Together, they create a continuous, people-oriented urban experience: the Gateway segment establishes a clear urban arrival and enhances multimodal access; the Bazaar segment introduces lively neighborhood street life through active uses and improved walkability; and the Park segment integrates greenery and shaded routes to shape a comfortable urban garden promenade. These strategies collectively advance the long-term vision for a vibrant, human-scaled, and transit-integrated Xinhu Road.
