This project began in Soho, New York, during a leisurely stroll. I stumbled upon a shop with a mirror as a signboard and couldn't resist looking at my own reflection. To my surprise, I noticed that not only I, but also other pedestrians passing by, shared the same curiosity and took a moment to check themselves in the mirror. They would pause, assess their appearance, and even take photos. Mirror Bench is a public bench that allows users to see themselves in a public environment while still maintaining privacy for each user based on the structure and the perforation of the bench. Considering safety, the perforations provide enough gaps for passing pedestrians to see inside the structure but still maintain privacy for users. The bench is modular, allowing it to accommodate various uses and be placed in different orientations and arrangements. Mirror Bench is a chair that incorporates solar panels, enabling it to autonomously generate electricity and provide safety lighting at night. The primary objective of this chair's design is to ensure that users can access a mirror function even in low-light conditions. Additionally, it aims to offer a secure shelter for specific demographics, including single women, children, and vulnerable groups, within urban environments. Mirror Bench, made of magnesium alloy, is designed based on considerations of manufacturing cost and feasibility. Its design primarily utilizes sheet materials, enabling cost-effective production of magnesium alloy. Additionally, the incorporation of perforation techniques allows users to see the outside scenery and passing pedestrians through the sheet material, while also providing excellent concealment.
