This office design project originated from a seemingly contradictory requirement: a fund management firm serving high net worth clients sought a space that felt both innovative and solidly trustworthy, yet offered no specific direction. The compact office also had to host frequent client visits and daily operations. Our task was to deliver a precise solution on both symbolic and functional levels.

Balanced office: understanding client’s client to unlock value beyond ordinary

Design should not merely reflect the designer’s taste but should meet needs the client may not yet have articulated, creating a space they love and that supports their business. I looked beyond the client’s own requests to understand their end users—high net worth individuals. By talking with them, I identified key preferences: understated elegance, attention to detail, and a balance between classic and future. These were translated into a cohesive visual language: simplified Art Deco details with light gold for refinement; white marble for purity and stability; and carefully toned wood finishes to avoid appearing too heavy or too light. The focal entry wall, after multiple material tests, balances time, cost, and quality. The final technique—printed back panels with reverse mounted glass and integrated lighting—introduces a subtle tech inspired texture. Together, these elements build an aesthetic bridge, letting the space convey professionalism, refinement, and trust.

Compact Versatility: Opening the Plan, Fostering Cohesion

Instead of traditional enclosed and separated zones, I integrated server, plotter, pantry, and storage functions into a continuous wall based cabinet within the compact office, using detached units and damp proof layers to prevent interference. The core of this open zone is a floating marble island. This not only supports varied uses but also makes the workspace feel larger and adds a warm, residential backdrop. After over a year of use, the client feedbacked this island is the most favorite spot—used for client meetings, discussions, outsource staff working desk, organizing materials, shared lunch and coffee breaks. It quietly encourages interaction and collaboration, giving the office a home like sense of community.

By understanding user psychology and behavior, the design balances innovation with steadiness —delivering lasting, everyday value.
