In the heart of Barcelona, architects Laura Navarro ( founder of Dröm Living) and Felipe Ortega transformed their 80 m² apartment into a functional sanctuary that balances family life with professional demands. The project, developed through the studio Dröm Living , demonstrates how thoughtful design can transform everyday spaces into poetry.

The intervention preserves the apartment's essence while reinterpreting it through a contemporary lens. The original Catalan vault remains visible throughout, adding texture and rustic warmth that grounds the space in its architectural heritage. This historical element dialogues seamlessly with modern interventions—microcement flooring, stainless steel details, and clean geometric lines—creating a composition where past and present coexist in harmony.

Material selection drives the project's identity. Warm oak wood predominates in custom furniture and carpentry, establishing an intimate, enveloping atmosphere. White mosaic tiles in the kitchen introduce brightness and visual continuity, while granite countertops in both kitchen and bathroom provide subtle artisanal character. The continuous microcement flooring unifies all spaces, enhancing the sense of spaciousness and flow.

The layout prioritizes openness and connection. The common area integrates kitchen, dining, and living spaces into a single, light-filled volume designed for family sharing. The partially integrated kitchen connects seamlessly to the dining area through shared materials and tones. Adjacent to this core, the children's playroom extends daily life within the same domestic environment, separated by translucent glass and oak screens that allow natural light to filter through to the home office beyond.

Carefully curated design pieces punctuate the spaces—the Hashira Linear pendant by Audo Copenhagen, T Lamp by Frama, Parentesi light by Flos, and Vipp 452 Swivel chair—each adding identity without disrupting the overall calm. Wooden Venetian blinds filter natural light, casting shifting shadows that accompany the passage of time.

The project succeeds through restraint rather than excess. Every element finds its place naturally, creating spaces that breathe, feel, and invite unhurried inhabitation. Apartment Cu4tro demonstrates that functionality and serenity need not be opposing forces—they can be partners in creating a contemporary refuge where a family can truly live.
