About The Entry

SupportAssist is smart technology pre-installed on Dell computers to keep devices running like new by removing viruses, detecting issues, optimizing settings, and telling users when updates are needed. It monitors health, performance, and security all in a single dashboard.

The software is extremely complex and needs to be accessible to hundreds of millions of users globally. It must work for users of all levels, and it needs to feel intuitive and simple to use.

A recent redesign of the platform reenvisioned the whole experience and what it means to interact with a triage scan. The resulting design, dubbed the Run-All Dial, was a big departure from the previous look at feel. Inspired by the recognizable pattern of a digital dial, such as one would find on a thermostat or washing machine, the scanning process is now more compelling and provides additional clarity. Users now know exactly what is happening in real time and avoid accidentally closing out of the experience before the scan is complete.
