Scentable is an olfactory service design project that translates relationship-based experiences and feeling cues into a take-home scent object through a carefully orchestrated cultural journey.
The service begins before any scent is chosen. Guests first enter a fictional world where atmosphere, narrative, objects, and spatial rhythm work together to reduce the pressure of decision-making and support personal reflection. Rather than asking participants to select a fragrance by preference, the experience invites them to follow narrative and scent cues, then choose one relationship theme: love, friendship, kinship, or belonging.
The service journey then helps each participant organize their choices through the structure of scent. Top notes capture the first sensory impression, middle notes develop the relational context, and base notes hold what remains, lingers, or is difficult to name. These feeling cues are gradually translated into a formula through designed touchpoints: a leather-bound storybook, scent pens, scent bookmarks, composition sheets, staff pacing, and a calibrated production flow.
Scentable’s frontstage experience appears quiet and self-guided, while the backstage system supports pacing, tool exchange, formula confirmation, bottle completion, packaging, and departure. Every object functions as service evidence, allowing an intangible sensory journey to become visible, repeatable, and operationally sustainable.
The final outcome is a 60ml olfactory object that participants can take away as a physical vessel of memory and personal narrative. By connecting narrative design, scent cues, material tools, spatial choreography, and service operation, Scentable reframes perfume-making from a technical workshop into a cultural service system.
