The project is located adjacent to Longshan Temple in Daxi, Taoyuan, and is designed to integrate local culture with the surrounding natural environment, expressing a strong sense of place and cultural continuity.
Daxi is known for its rich historical context and deep Hakka cultural heritage.
The architectural language reinterprets traditional spirit through a modern and minimalist approach, using horizontally extended volumes and transparent facades to establish a harmonious dialogue with the surrounding mountain landscape.
“Hakka Red” is adopted as the primary accent color for the entrance frames, ceilings, and architectural details, symbolizing the warmth, simplicity, and cohesion embedded within Hakka culture. The contrast between red and white not only reflects local cultural identity, but also creates a balance between tradition and contemporary aesthetics.
At the center of the building, an open courtyard strengthens social interaction and community connection, transforming the space from a purely functional facility into a shared platform for gathering, communication, and collective activities. The overall design responds to the local environment while preserving cultural memory through contemporary spatial expression.
The entrance space emphasizes openness and accessibility through large folding glass doors and framed openings, allowing natural light and indoor activities to extend seamlessly into the outdoor environment. Geometric triangular ceiling patterns inspired by Hakka cultural motifs further reinforce the project’s identity and create a visually welcoming atmosphere.
Interior spaces reinterpret the imagery of Daxi’s mountain town through abstract wall graphics, circular lighting inspired by the moon emerging through mountain mist, and warm wood-textured flooring. Through the integration of natural materials, local cultural references, and clean architectural lines, the project creates a calm, open, and community-oriented public space that reflects both the environmental character and cultural essence of Daxi.
