Despite wanting to meet romantic partners naturally in person, young singles don’t always know how to break the ice and initiate conversation. For this reason, people have come to rely on the crutch of dating apps, with diminished incentives for people to approach one another in person.
On a mission to disrupt endless dating app swiping, Love Notes infuses fun and personality into dating through a form of “missed connections”. Through the use of AR technology, Love Notes allows singles to meet in person by discovering commentary left behind by others on virtual notes. For those looking to change the way they date in the digital age, Love Notes is an alternative option that allows them to find romance in places they already enjoy frequenting.
To make this a reality, set parameters were established–the first being designating locations to host the experience and centralize users. Optimal settings are those which are both visual, and often frequented alone–making an art museum the ideal location to display the solution.
With connection hinging on the concept of notes, the “anatomy of a note” was created. When a user comes across a note they “vibe with”, they can view the person’s profile, and send a “like” requesting to connect. To keep matches in the nearby area and incentivize an immediate meetup, notes expire after 2 hours–a decision which also helps curb overpopulation.
To avoid impacting the viewing experience at the location, notes populate one by one as a user approaches a piece of art. Notes are tagged with emojis to provide viewers the emotional tone of what they are about to read. Read notes recess and lower in opacity, while selected notes grow and are at full opacity.
Because the experience hinges on interacting with notes in a public setting, it’s crucial that engagement be natural. To ensure this, it was imperative that users browse notes discreetly with eye tracking, and use subtle hand motions to capture triggers.
With Love Notes, serendipity and fun can become part of dating once again.
