Nestled in Jixi County, Anhui, China, this vibrant cultural and tourism complex breathes new life into an ancient industrial relic. The site of the project, the historic Jixi Silk Reeling Factory, holds over 60 years of history and stands as a proud symbol of Jixi’s textile heritage. As the pinnacle of the silk reeling industry from the 1970s to the 1990s, it bore witness to the dedication and dreams of generations of laborers. Though it has stepped off the stage of history, the factory’s legacy is vividly preserved and reimagined in the design of Sixiang, transforming it into a venue where the past and present meet seamlessly.
With the core philosophy of "revival and inheritance," the design harmoniously intertwines the profound historical weight of the old factory with the vibrant essence of modern street culture. Through meticulous restoration of archival documents, vivid historical photographs, and recreated scenes, the venue vividly narrates the prosperous journey of the silk reeling factory. Visitors are invited to experience the warmth and significance of this bygone era, brought to life in every corner of the space.
Sixiang has been crafted into a lively culinary market that interacts organically with surrounding dining establishments, catering to all-day, all-season dining needs. Its central area features exhibitions that highlight the history of the silk reeling factory, enriched with red slogans, vintage wall art, and industrial aesthetics, creating a nostalgic atmosphere. Walls adorned with small cards echoing memories, retro televisions, and classic signage transport visitors to a spirited and industrious past. Additionally, open spaces designed for family interaction invite children to play and elders to gather, fostering a deeply human and community-oriented environment.
The project carefully balances historic preservation with modern innovation. Parts of the original factory structure have been retained to honor its industrial legacy, while eco-friendly coatings were used to renew the walls, minimizing environmental impact. A thoughtful lighting design integrates energy-efficient fixtures with natural light, creating a warm and inviting ambiance while promoting sustainability.
