The project is located in a 30 year old residence in Linkou and is home to a family of five. Faced with the high-density daily life of three children and two adults living together, the designer chose not to respond with rigid spatial divisions. Instead, the design began by reconsidering “how light flows through space”, redefining the scale and boundaries of the social area. The core question driving the project was whether, under conditions of visual openness, daily life could still unfold without mutual interference. Through spatial reorganization and volumetric planning, light is allowed to move freely, pause, and circulate within the interior, forming subtle, almost imperceptible boundaries while setting a calmer, more measured rhythm for family life.
The most representative highlight of the space lies in the reconfiguration of the relationship between “light and layout”. Originally lacking a defined entryway, the plan was reoriented through wall adjustments and functional integration to establish a clear sequence upon entry. This allows light to unfold gradually after entering the home, while simultaneously creating order for storage and circulation. Rather than being placed along a window, the TV wall was repositioned as a central volume between the living room and dining area. Serving both display and storage functions, it also becomes a key element that redirects and reflects light, anchoring the space while guiding illumination back into the interior.
